Just went to a local Staples and checked out the new Kindle Fire. The screen is so sharp and bright and the interface very responsive. But I did not buy it for the following reasons.
1. The 7 inch screen is still too small for my taste. When I tried to read a magazine, I had to manually enlarge the page to read it. But the truly awful thing is that the page will return to the previous size when I turn to the next page. This means that I have to enlarge every page. I cannot live with that. On a PC, if I make the font of a page larger, it stays larger.
By the way, my eyesight is reasonably good. My preferred resolution is 720p on a 14 inch screen.
2. The screen of a laptop stands by itself. For Kindle Fire, however, you have to constantly hold it in your hand. For example, when I do my cooking, I have my laptop on and I can view it when I get a chance. This will not work for Kindle Fire because it will be flat on the table.
3. I know how PC works inside out. I do not want to learn another way of organizing music, photos and files just for the sake of being different. At my age, I have other more important things to do.
All in all, Kindle Fire can be a great toy for many people, but not for me, however.
