Who needs personal energy? You do! Whether a teenager or senior citizen, male or female, black or white, sick or well, happy or sad, rich or poor, ugly or beautiful, you need personal energy. With it, your life can work well. Without it, you might as well be dead. Personal energy is for everyone. It knows no biases, no races or colors or creeds. It is as unchangeable as existence itself. But getting it, keeping it and using it to live a full life isn’t talked about much. It’s almost like electricity, the silent and invisible power that seems to come magically from a wall socket (except that you must pay the bill!).
In the last 25 years life has accelerated as never before, shockingly to some. This acceleration and accompanying complexity are increasing across the entire spectrum of human affairs, in every area this book touches. Never has there been a greater need for an individual to have and use personal energy in all parts of his or her existence to achieve a full and successful life.
Read this book, understand it, refer to it often. You hold in your hands the key to becoming a richer person–richer in money, of course, but also (and just as important) richer in mind and body, in work and play, in sex and imagination. You will, in fact, be richer in every area of your life that matters to you. Isn’t that what you want for yourself? Of course it is!
Personal control over energy
One of the amazing and beautiful things about personal energy is that you can actually manage it for yourself. This makes it almost unique in your life. In an increasingly complex world where less and less seems to be under our control, here at last is a single element you can manage from start to finish.
As a bonus, you’ll find that personal energy will not only give you more control over your life as you live it, but will make you more valuable in the lives near to you. As a business person, you will have more control over your work and will achieve more. As a professor or student, you will gain increasing mastery over the subjects you are teaching or learning. As a worker in any kind of job, you’ll become more proficient, more promotable, a better earner. As an artist, you’ll be able to see more, express yourself better and more clearly.
As a husband or wife, lover or social contact, you will enrich your own life as you enrich others’. You will find yourself enriched because you have more to give and will be open to receive more. It’s an upward spiral and it’s worth the investment. It opens doors and helps build full lives.
It’s magic!
Personal energy, in one word, is magic! Magic? Yes,
! it’s magic because it delivers results that, when you look back on them, seem almost magical in their effects. Okay, be skeptical. But before we define the magic of personal energy, let’s get straight what personal energy isn’t:
• It’s not creativity, imagination, or the subconscious;
• Don’t confuse it with ‘positive thinking,’ an attitude that should be obvious to all of us;
• No way is it power over anyone (though personal energy will give you power over yourself);
• There are no rules, rituals, beliefs or ‘exercises;’
• Religion, or est or philosophy are not part of it;
• Forget contacts, persuasion or snake oil of any kind;
• It isn’t winning by intimidating or manipulating others;
• It’s no relation to time management, public speaking or ‘self confidence.’

The Personal Energy Network–these ingredients, individually and together, are the source of accomplishment for every individual regardless of age, sex or origins. Each by itself is important and valuable; together, they are unbeatable.
Alright, then what is personal energy? As you’ll discover, it’s a way to get more done, to function more effectively, so you can choose how you live and work, not have others choose for you. With higher levels of personal energy, you’ll find that your fair share of life’s good things–to which you are just as entitled as the next person–will flow to you. It is–that word again–magic!
The real magic of personal energy
Personal energy is the force that will raise your performance as a human being, whatever your work or lifestyle. It’s the fuel of an effective life, just as gasoline is the fuel for your car. Without that fuel, your body (or your car) won’t do much regardless of the ‘features.’ With it, your body–and, just as important, your mind–will be able to thrust forward and accomplish. That’s why it doesn’t matter what sort of a person you are, how smart or dumb, tall or short, fat or thin.
Personal energy is fuel working inside you, all the time. Remember: the fuel that propels vehicles doesn’t care whether it’s a car or truck, van or earthmover, moped or race car, plane or submarine. Electricity doesn’t know if you’re powering a pencil sharpener or a computer. Without its fuel (energy) the best device won’t work. Personal energy is the same. It’s the power of doing.
Forget the age factor
I said earlier that age is not a factor in personal energy, and it isn’t. Provided you’re healthy, age is never a limitation if we have energy and take action. You remember all those statistics on people who performed spectacularly at ages when it seemed at the very least improbable that they could succeed.
Benjamin Franklin wrote for a newspaper at age 16 (!) and was one of the people who helped frame the U.S. Constitution at age 81. Mickey Mantle and Ted Williams, two great figures in American baseball, functioned outside those age limitations we hear about so often–Williams, in his last time at bat at age 42, hit a home run, and Mantle (then 20!) hit 23 home runs in his first year in the major leagues despite genetic factors he thought might limit his very lifespan!
Golda Meir was 71 when she first became Israel’s Prime Minister, and Winston Churchill came back from years of relative obscurity, written off by his detractors, to lead Britain to triumph in World War II starting at age 65 and, after being defeated at the polls by Clement Atlee, became PM again at age 79. Earlier in British history William Pitt II became Prime Minister at age 24.
Mozart was seven years old when his first musical composition was published, but George Bernard Shaw was 94 when one of his plays was mounted for the first time. The fine American writer James Michener started his writing career at almost 40 and despite all the doom-sayers he persevered to become a great man of letters. The secret all these individuals possessed and understood, in addition to their undoubted talents: personal energy.
Win with it, lose without it
Nothing in your life is as primitive, as central, as uniquely you as your energy. You can, even in totalitarian nations, invest it willingly or withhold it simply by ‘dropping out’ of the energy commitment and becoming uninvolved. ‘Being there’ means nothing. You can drop out with your body, your mind, your emotions or your sexual drive, depending on the area of your life’s activity, and become a non-contributor.
This is one of the tragic, deadly things that happens in individuals, in families, in organizations, in corporations, even in countries when the moving force, life force and personal energy has dried up, gone away, folded up the tent, checked out, cashed in, decided not to try any longer. The results are all around us today.
Entire nations suffer, and the individuals within them. The Soviet Communists who controlled the Former Soviet Union repressed and depressed the populations of their Republics and killed the personal energy of their populations in the process, despite having some of the brightest and best educated people in the world. They had their privileged class–the nomenklatura–who took ruthless advantage of their underclasses and remain in positions of authority and power even after the fall of Soviet Communism (my friend Viktor Belenko, who risked his life flying a MiG-25 from the Soviet Union to the northern Japanese island of Hakodate in a daring escape from a regime that he felt was crushing him and destroying his homeland, calls them ‘the chameleons from the Kremlin’).
In such cases of abusive power and the discouragement of the mass of ordinary citizens, the energy-less feeling filters down to every level in the ‘group,’ whatever its basic purpose. The result is a listless, hopeless feeling you can almost touch. You can see it in the peoples’ faces, and it is still visible today in too many parts of the world, not just the Former Soviet Union.
On the other hand, in groups or individuals, even the most humble, where the strong energies are flowing, the commitments strong, the involvement positive and determined, you feel exactly the same sensations but in reverse: energy, motivation, desire, effort, ingenuity, commitment, imagination, humor, joy.
Which would you prefer? It’s up to you.
