9/2 Left Monterey. On Airbus met a pretty young Mexican lady who did make up on the way. On cahtting I learned she works for the Acuarium, is a Master graduate in marine biology and does behind the curtain research. She was going to SF for a one day trip. That is a clever idea, an alternative to driving by yourself. 9/3 Arrived at Pudong on time. New Terminal. even domestic departure is wide and bright and there are 12 free internet computers. No control function so no way to add Chinese input. Have to be here for 3+ hours and then fly to Beijing. Watched five movies on the plane, two Japanese ones The Song of a Quiet CAfe, and Under the Spotlight of Taiqin, about old movie actors acting samurais in samurai TV sopas, one French called Lande, one Twaiwanese called Bao Feng Yu (Violent and Mad Language), one Chinese called Forget to Understand You (featuring Tao Hong). All are very good movies. At the same time, read some paragraphs in George Steiner's After Babel and two articles in an essay collection by Doris Lessing. The plane was not full. |
